Taking time out can be a powerful thing, depending on your reasons – fatigue, overload, boredom, following a new passion, fill in your _____! The main thing is that it can have amazing benefits and even more amazing results.
Here are 5 reasons to Take Time Out:
- Refocus. Sometimes we can’t see the forest for the trees as the old saying goes. Stepping away from whatever it is that caused you to take time out in the first place can give you the distance you need to either carry on or find something new to replace it.
- Rebalance. Perhaps you’re on system overload – too much going on in your life what with the demands of work, family and life in general. A tiff with your spouse, the chaos of kids on a rainy afternoon or a particularly bad day at the office can be a great reason to make an appointment at your favorite spa or even lock yourself in the bathroom and climb into a hot tub filled with aromatic bath salts.
- More time. Taking a few things off your plate can give you a few more minutes of that most precious of all commodities. Jack of all trades and master of none applies to way too many of us and even a few extra minutes a day to devote to a kid, a project, the gym, picking up that book you’ve wanted to read or whatever else you know is coming up short can make a real difference.
- Clarity. Regardless of whether you take time out for a few hours, a few days or a few years, somehow you come back with a clearer sense of what you want to accomplish and often with the inner grit to see it through.
- Boredom. Doing the same old thing over and over can become tedious and boring – no matter how glamorous or exciting that “thing” may be. Except most of the time it doesn’t seem so exciting anymore, does it? Giving yourself permission to take time out allows you to do something else without feeling guilty about it.
Much of the above applies to the past couple of years as I seesawed back and forth between two new spa projects, doing some paid blogging for a couple of online businesses and my wellness consulting. Not only didn’t I blog here, but my tweeting and even FaceBook were virtually ignored.
It blows my mind that two years can pass so quickly! But I’m back…with a new focus on Wellness that has evolved into a very personal take on the classical spa mantra of Mind, Body, Spirit.
Taking time out from this blog was a good thing, but coming back with a fresh, new outlook fills me with a real sense of anticipation!
